On January 12, 2017, PLDT Chairman Mr. Manny V. Pangilinan and Smart Communications Chief Revenue Officer Mr. Eric Alberto signed a partnership deal with the Miss Universe Organization wherein PLDT and Smart will provide Miss Universe 2016 with reliable fixed broadband and fast mobile network connectivity, powering the pageant throughout its entire stay in the Philippines.
