On Monday – June 12, 2017, coinciding with 119th Philippine Independence Day Celebration, Free Smart WiFi in select MRT stations along EDSA became available to the public.
Being offered in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, this landmark service allows subscribers of all networks to enjoy free WiFi access for 30 minutes with no data cap.
The connection gives Filipinos the freedom to transform their usual tiring and cumbersome commuting experience into one that’s enjoyable and productive. With fast and reliable Free Smart WiFi, MRT passengers can accomplish more tasks on the go, including checking emails, downloading large files, watching videos, streaming music tracks, chatting with friends and workmates on Viber or Messenger, and even updating their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts!
Smart, Sun, and Talk ‘N Text subscribers who want to enjoy more than 30 minutes of WiFi connection can simply purchase Smart WiFi load from partner retailers in denominations of Php 20 pesos for 2 hours, valid for 2 days; and Php 50 for 10 hours, valid for 5 days – or simply convert their load to Smart WiFi minutes by texting their preferred denomination – WIFI10, WIFI20 or WIFI50 – to 9991.
Currently, Free Smart WiFi is limited only to some MRT platforms along EDSA but soon, the service will be available to all commuters and pedestrians who will be passing by the said avenue – and even in other locations across the country.
In fact, Smart Communications also provides Free WiFi connection at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, at the Light Railway Transit (LRT), in key regional airports, seaports and transport hubs, in high-traffic areas including tourist spots, hospitals, schools, city halls, malls, as well as popular hangout places in various parts of the Philippines called SmartSpots.
Smart’s Free WiFi service in MRT Stations as well as the complementary improvement of its LTE service along EDSA are powered by the MVP-company’s desire to deliver the best digital and mobile experience to Filipinos so we all can do more like never before.
