Mobile Number Portability
You Can Switch, But Your Number Stays
Switching to a different mobile service plan or to a different network used to come with several inconveniences. Apart from informing all of your contacts about your new number, you also have to update your bank, government records, online log-in details for emails and other applications, to name some.
If you have delayed your plan to switch because of these reasons, you can reconsider switching now with the introduction of MPN, or Mobile Number Portability.
What is Mobile Number Portability?
Through RA 11202 or the Mobile Number Portability Act, mobile service providers are required to provide mobile number portability to its subscribers. This means that mobile phone users can now keep their current mobile numbers, even when they transfer to a different network provider or change plans, from prepaid to postpaid and vice versa.
Imagine, you don’t have to memorize a new number. Now, are you interested?
To comply with RA 11202, and to be one with the government’s thrust to improve the country’s telco services, Smart launched its MNP Program.
Who’s qualified for MNP?
If you are a subscriber, you are qualified if your mobile number:
- Is active
- Has no unpaid account charges
- Is not linked to an operator-locked device
- Is not part of any product or service bundle
- Must not be the primary or principal of multiple accounts
- Must not have a pending transfer of mobile number ownership request
- Has not applied for the MNP within the last 60 days
- Is not associated with any fraudulent activity
- Has no prohibitions set by the law, by a court order or by the National Telecommunications Commission
How can you avail of MNP?
If you are already a Smart prepaid or TNT subscriber and you want to convert your number to a postpaid account, or if you have a Smart postpaid account and you want to make your number into a prepaid account, you can visit the nearest Smart store, submit the required documents for your application, and wait for the notification for a successful MNP process and activation of your new account.
If you have a current account with a different service provider and you wish to make your number a Smart account, apply MNP at your current account provider, submit the required documents to get your Unique Subscriber Code (USC). Present your USC to any Smart store and complete the steps for a new account subscription. Then, prepare to receive a notification for a successful MNP process and new account activation.
The activation process takes about 24 to 48 hours once your MNP application is received by your preferred network provider. Expect a maximum of 4 hours of service interruption (no voice, SMS and data) to complete the activation of your new subscription. Please note that Smart’s MNP Program is free of charge.
The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) program is your access to a better and smarter mobile experience. Switch to Smart or stay on Smart and get the latest data offers from the Philippines’ fastest 5G network.
