What’s New in 2024? Five Tech Trends to Watch Out for This Year

2024 is here, which means we have another year of new tech to look forward to—from brand-new devices that push the envelope to fresh, innovative technologies that are set to change the way we interact with the world. Here are some of the technology trends that are expected to make a mark this year.

AI and Machine Learning

The popularity of AI tools has grown rapidly over the last couple of years and companies like Google and Microsoft have begun developing AI-powered features for their own products, such as Compose and Copilot, respectively. Additionally, Microsoft has made Copilot available for iOS and Android, making the AI assistant accessible to mobile users. Hardware manufacturers have also started bolstering their products, such as laptops and smartphones, with AI-powered tools. In 2024, you can expect many more companies to release their own AI-powered software and hardware.

Larger Foldables

After several generations of foldable smartphones from brands like Samsung, OPPO, and Xiaomi, it looks like 2024 will finally be the year companies take the next big leap in foldable devices and begin releasing foldable tablets. Several devices with large foldable displays have already been released over the past few years, such as the Zenbook Fold and the Google Pixel Fold, but 2024 will see a couple more foldables—with the HONOR Magic V2 among the most anticipated releases.

Extended Reality (XR)

Even though Extended Reality (XR) experiences—which include Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR)—have been around for a long time, they are few and far between due to pricey dedicated hardware. However, with the rise of new technologies like AI and machine learning, and with more hardware manufacturers releasing their own XR devices, Extended Reality will become popular and more accessible in the near future.

Connected Cars

Many car manufacturers have started to include high-tech features in their automobiles. These include Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control that make driving easier and many models now feature fully digital dashboards supported by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also the rapidly growing Electric Vehicle (EV) market. 2024 will likely see even more cars—from high-end models to affordable options—be more digitized and connected.

Portable Gaming

It’s been almost two years since Valve’s Steam Deck portable PC gaming console was released, and it’s been a surprisingly massive success. The popularity of the Steam Deck has even led other manufacturers to come out with their own portable PC gaming devices last year, such as the ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go. And in 2024, we could start seeing more manufacturers try their hand in the market, offering either more affordable or feature-rich takes on the portable PC gaming console, as well as the next generations of already existing devices.

Stay Connected With Smart

2024 is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting year for tech, offering something new for every tech enthusiast and consumer. With Smart’s 5G mobile network, you can make the most of the new devices and tech coming out this year. Postpaid users can take their pick from Smart’s Signature Plans+, which come with big data allocation, as well as unli all-net text and calls (including landline). Prepaid subscribers, meanwhile, can take advantage of offers like PowerAll 99, which comes with 8 GB data allocation for all sites and apps, unli TikTok, and unli all-net texts.
