At the recent Unpacked event, Samsung officially launched the Galaxy S22 series, the latest in Samsung’s flagship S lineup. The S22 series packs improved specs that promise to enhance productivity, as well as enhanced designs with better reliability. Samsung also introduced a major revamp to the Ultra variant.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the highlight of the new lineup as not only does it have a top-of-the-line processor and camera setup, it’s also the phone that’s designed for on-the-go productivity. This is because the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the first Galaxy S device to have a built-in S Pen. Along with the S-Pen, the S22 Ultra also features a sharper-edged design, making it the spiritual successor to the iconic Galaxy Note series.
The S Pen allows users to jot down notes, make quick sketches, and fine-tune photos & videos while editing, making it a promising partner for content creators. Even business professionals can make use of the S Pen as it makes signing virtual documents much easier. On top of these, the S Pen also doubles as a camera control device. You can use the S Pen button to snap photos – perfect for taking snapshots while the phone is on a tripod.
To make the stylus experience better, Samsung packed a large 6.8-inch Edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display, meaning users have a larger canvas for their creative work. With this large, almost tablet-size display, creatives can easily sketch artwork and have an easier time editing photos & videos.
The display also features a fast 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ for an enhanced gaming and movie/series watching experience.
Whether you need to run hardware-intensive productivity apps or games, the S22 Ultra should have no issues as it is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 895, making it the first Samsung Galaxy flagship to use a processor with a 4nm process. This innovative feature means the S22 Ultra can run even the most demanding apps without slowing down.
The flagship chipset is also paired with up to 12GB of RAM, meaning the S22 Ultra can handle multiple open apps which is important for multitasking.
For battery life, the S22 Ultra promises to last for long on a single charge with its large 5,000mAh battery. When you need to charge, the phone supports 45W fast charging so it’ll take less than an hour to fill up to 100%.
Its cameras also got a big upgrade as the S22 Ultra features a 108MP main shooter with OIS, a 10MP + 10MP dual telephoto snapper setup with OIS, and a 12MP ultrawide camera with Super Steady video. These cameras are designed for enhanced night photography, more authentic portraits, and cinematic video capture. Content creators can leave their bulky camera behind and use the S22 Ultra when making content on-the-go.
On the front is a 40MP wide selfie camera with improved camera modes for even better selfies that are social media ready – no editing required.
To keep the phone protected and to deal with accidental damage, Samsung packed the S22 Ultra with Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus®+ protection on the front and back. This latest iteration of Gorilla Glass is Corning’s most advanced yet, as it offers improved scratch resistance, as well as better drop resistance. Corning reports that Gorilla Glass Victus can survive drops to rough surfaces from up to 2 meters.
The S22 and S22+ are powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 895, featuring a 4nm processor that could power all the apps you need, and more. Coupled with 8GB of RAM, the S22 and S22+ will continue to perform fast and snappily, even with heavy multitasking.
As for their displays, the S22 packs a 6.1-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the S22+ features a 6.6-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with a similar 120Hz refresh rate. These high refresh rate displays will make playing games feel faster and smoother.
Both phones also pack Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus®+ at the display and on the back, ensuring that the phone is protected from scratches and drops on either side.
Both phones share a triple rear camera setup which consists of a 50MP wide shooter with OIS, a 10MP telephoto with OIS, and a 12MP ultrawide with Super Steady video. For selfies, both phones pack 10MP front cameras. This camera setup promises improved nighttime photography, videography, and selfie quality over previous generation flagships, making them even better at capturing life’s most memorable moments.
Finally, both phones pack batteries that promise all-day use on a single charge. The S22 has a 3,700mAh battery while the S22+ packs a 4,500mAh battery. The S22+ also comes with 45W Super Fast Charging so you don’t have to wait long to pick up where you left off.
